ODE 2 THE BARKLEY
The Barkley is an endurance ultramarathon trail race held in Frozen Head State Park near Wartburg, Tennessee. The full course is 100 miles (160 km) and the altitude change equivalent of climbing and descending Mount Everest twice. Runners aim to go 60 hours without sleep, and using maps to navigating a terrain that creates its own weather. Here the truth is malleable and runners create and come to terms with their own definitions of success and failure.
Invented by Lazurus Lake and Rag Dog in 1986, The Barkley Marathon can break any humans physical and mental strength.
Based on clothing ultra runners wear, the chest piece has the race map quilted and embroidered into it, held to the body by stuffed legs and little feet that clasp in the back. Detachable sleeves & skirt pockets that turn into bags to hold everything a runner needs.
